A walking pad is a treadmill with the handrails and the console taken off. It’s flat, about 10 to 15cm high, and it slides under a standing desk so you can walk slowly while you deal with email. People in Ireland search for them thousands of times a month, but Irish shops stock very few. Most of what you’ll find ships from Britain or further away.
We checked what you can get delivered to an Irish address on 31 October 2026. Amazon prices change daily, so we don’t print them.

Mobvoi Walking Pad: the one we’d put under a desk
This is a plain walking pad with no handrail. It runs from 2 to 6 km/h, takes up to 120kg and has a 90 x 38cm belt. It’s 11.7cm high and weighs 13.4kg, so you can tip it onto its wheels and roll it under a sofa when you’re done. You control it with a remote, and an LED display shows time, speed and distance.
Amazon UK sells and dispatches it, delivery to Ireland was free when we checked, and it had 4.2 stars from 348 ratings. Mobvoi gives it a 2-year warranty.
Two things to know. The slowest speed is 2 km/h, so if you want to amble at 1 km/h while you type, you can’t. And a 90cm belt is fine at walking pace, but a tall person with a long stride will notice the front edge.
Mobvoi Home Treadmill SE: if you also want to jog
Same company, with a handrail that folds up and down. With the rail down it’s a desk walking pad running from 1 to 6 km/h. Flip the rail up and it goes to 12 km/h for a jog. It takes 120kg, weighs 17.6kg and has a 2-year warranty. Mobvoi says it runs at no more than 60dB.
It’s the most-reviewed walking pad we found on Amazon.ie: 4.4 stars from 1,487 ratings. Amazon UK sells and dispatches it, and delivery was free when we checked.
The catch is the listing. It doesn’t give the belt size or the height of the deck, and its folded dimensions don’t add up. Ask the seller before you count on it fitting under your desk.
ITM Walking Pad 400: from an Irish shop
InTheMarket is an online shop in Carrigtwohill, Co. Cork, that also sells bin stores and garden sheds. It has 4.6 stars from about 1,900 reviews on Trustpilot. Its own-brand walking pad costs €149 through Decathlon’s Irish website, sold and shipped by InTheMarket.
It runs from 1 to 6 km/h, has two manual incline settings, stands 9.5cm high and weighs 21kg. It arrives assembled and comes with a 2-year warranty, with support based in Ireland.
The belt is the problem. At 80 x 34cm it’s one of the smallest we saw, and the listing gives the weight limit as 100kg in one place and 90kg in another. If you’re of average height and only walking slowly, it’ll do. Tall people should look at something longer. InTheMarket also sells a Walking Pad 600 for €239.
LifeSpan TX6: for walking most of the day
The TX6 costs seven times as much as the ITM, and you can see where the money goes. The belt is 122 x 51cm, the weight limit is 181kg and LifeSpan rates it for 7 hours a day. For home use, the frame and motor have a lifetime warranty, parts are covered for 5 years and labour for 2. For comparison, Decathlon rates its own W500 walking treadmill for up to 10 hours a week.
Decathlon.ie lists it for €1,099, sold and shipped by LifeSpan’s European business in Rotterdam.
It weighs 36.8kg, so it isn’t something you’ll slide under the sofa every evening. It’s also one of the taller pads, which matters for your desk (see below). LifeSpan’s European site gives its height as 15cm and Decathlon’s listing says 12.7cm. LifeSpan’s own pages also disagree about its top speed, so check before you buy if you want more than walking pace.
Check your desk height first
A walking pad lifts you off the floor, so your desk has to go higher by the height of the deck. Add a couple of centimetres for shoes as well.

These figures start from the standing heights in our standing desk height chart, add 2.5cm for shoes, and then add the pad.
| Your height | Standing desk height (bare feet) | With an 11.7cm pad | With a 15cm pad |
|---|---|---|---|
| 165cm | 102cm | 116cm | 120cm |
| 170cm | 105cm | 119cm | 123cm |
| 175cm | 108cm | 122cm | 126cm |
| 180cm | 112cm | 126cm | 130cm |
| 185cm | 115cm | 129cm | 133cm |
| 190cm | 119cm | 133cm | 137cm |
Now compare that with the maximum height of your desk. The HOMCOM desk tops out at 118cm, the HuntOffice Core Electric at 121.5cm and the IKEA MITTZON at 126cm. The Viking Realspace reaches 130cm and the Oakywood Touch 132cm. If you’re 175cm or taller, a lot of budget desks run out of height once you add a pad. Our desk comparison lists the height range of every desk we recommend.
A desk converter can work too. The ERGOMAKER 91cm lifts its top to about 125 to 127cm on a standard 73 to 75cm desk.
What to look for
Belt size
Most budget pads have a belt between 90 and 100cm long and 38 to 40cm wide. That’s fine for a slow walk at a desk. An 80cm belt is short, and if you’re tall, look for 100cm or more.
Speed
At a desk you’ll walk slowly. In one Mayo Clinic study, office workers chose about 1.8 km/h while they worked. A top speed of 6 km/h is plenty. The 10 and 12 km/h figures only matter on pads with a handrail, if you want to jog.
Weight limit
Leave a margin. If you weigh 95kg, a pad rated at 100kg is working at its limit every time you step on.
How many hours it’s built for
Few cheap pads say how long they’re designed to run. Decathlon rates its W500 for up to 10 hours a week, and LifeSpan rates the TX6 for 7 hours a day. If you plan to walk for hours every day and the listing doesn’t say, ask the seller.
Noise
Be sceptical of the numbers. One bestselling pad on Amazon.ie claims 35dB, which would be quieter than a library. Decathlon says the noise mostly comes from your feet hitting the deck, not the motor. If you live in an apartment, put a mat under it for the sake of whoever lives downstairs.
Warranty, and who stands behind it
Check who sells it. If Amazon sells and dispatches the pad, you return it to Amazon. If a third-party seller does, you deal with them. Warranties run from 1 to 2 years on most budget pads, and some listings give both figures.
Controls
A remote is easy to lose. Check whether there are buttons on the pad itself or an app as a backup.
Where to buy a walking pad in Ireland
Amazon.ie
Amazon has the most choice. Check the “Dispatched from and sold by” line on every listing. Many walking pads on Amazon.ie are sold by Amazon UK. That’s fine for the plug, because Ireland and the UK use the same three-pin plug. But the pad ships from outside the EU, so check the checkout total for import charges. From 1 November 2026, packages from outside the EU also carry a €2 Union Handling Fee per item, which sellers may pass on.
Decathlon
Decathlon’s Irish website doesn’t list its own under-desk walking pad. Search for one and you get marketplace sellers from around Europe, InTheMarket and LifeSpan among them. Decathlon’s own W500B costs €420 and had 4.6 stars from 425 reviews when we checked, but it’s a compact walking treadmill with a console about 110cm high, so it won’t go under a desk.
Irish shops
InTheMarket in Cork is the main one. Walkzone.ie, which describes itself as Irish-owned, listed one pad for €299, and it was sold out when we checked.
Watch the crossed-out prices. One site aimed at Irish buyers lists ten pads at €99.99 to €229.99, each marked down from a “was” price of €259.99 to €399.99. Judge the price in front of you, not the discount.
Secondhand
DoneDeal and Adverts.ie usually have a few. Ask how many hours the pad has done and try it before you pay.
Argos
Argos closed all its shops in the Republic in 2023, so you can’t buy a walking pad from Argos in Ireland any more.
Does walking at your desk do anything?
Some, but less than the marketing suggests.
In a Mayo Clinic study, office workers with obesity burned 119 more calories an hour walking at about 1.8 km/h while they worked than they did sitting (Levine and Miller, 2007).
The catch is whether people keep it up. In a Swedish trial, 80 office workers either got a treadmill desk or carried on as normal. After 13 months, the treadmill group walked 18 minutes more on weekdays, against 1 minute more for the others. That was less than the researchers had hoped for. One participant stepped on their own Achilles tendon (Bergman et al., 2018).
A US trial found much the same: treadmill desk users stepped more at work in the first few months, but after a year their total daily sitting time hadn’t changed (Arguello et al., 2021).
And it slows your typing. A review of 18 studies found treadmill desks reduced typing speed, though attention tests showed no drop (Podrekar et al., 2020).
So walk for calls, reading and email, and stand or sit for detailed typing. Start with 20 to 30 minutes at 2 km/h and see whether you’re still doing it in a month. Our guide to whether a standing desk is worth it covers the sitting and standing side.
Setting it up
Put a treadmill mat under the pad. It protects the floor and cuts the vibration that travels into the room below. Amazon.ie sells plenty of them. An anti-fatigue mat is a different thing, made for standing still, so don’t use one under a pad.
Lubricate the belt as the manual says. Decathlon calls it essential, and Mobvoi includes lubricant with the Home Treadmill SE.
Run the power cable along the wall, away from your feet. Take the safety key out, or unplug the pad, when children or pets are around.
Wear shoes.
Questions people ask
Can I use a walking pad with a desk converter?
Yes, if the converter goes high enough. Add the pad’s height to your standing desk height and check the converter reaches it on top of your desk.
Can you run on a walking pad?
Not on a flat one. Most top out at 6 km/h. Pads with a fold-up handrail, like the Mobvoi Home Treadmill SE, go faster, but only use the higher speeds with the rail up.
Is a walking pad worth it?
If you spend a lot of the day on calls or reading, and you’ll use it most days, yes. If you’re hoping it will replace exercise, the research says most people walk less on them than they planned.
Do walking pads work on carpet?
On low carpet, yes. Put a mat underneath so the rubber feet don’t mark the floor.
Can I buy a walking pad from Argos in Ireland?
No. Argos closed its shops in the Republic in 2023.
